Meet Duncan!
Duncan came to Arthur Animal Rescue from a backyard breeder/hoarding situation with a terrible URI. With the wonderful care of our vet team at Riverside Animal Hospital he was treated and recovered. Unfortunately, he also had Manx Syndrome (also known as Spina Bifida) which left him without a tail as well as the inability to control his bladder and bowels. Despite this, Duncan acts like a typical year old cat; he’s always playing, cuddling and entertaining his foster family.
To keep his bowels at their best, he must be kept strictly on Royal Canin Gastrointestinal kibble. No treats or human food. He also gets 1/4 tsp of psyllium husks on his breakfast and dinner which helps bulk up with waste. He wears XXS cat/puppy diapers if he will be out of his crate for a longer period of time.He will need his bottom washed and dried every day to prevent sores. He will need his bladder expressed every few hours and his bowels expressed daily. This way he can run around diaper free for longer periods of time.
His foster mama has gotten a great routine down where most days she can just express him in the morning and let him run around playing with the other cats without a diaper. At night he goes into his sleeping cage where we keep him without a diaper and clean up after him in the morning. His current foster mama will be able to teach his new family the way to care for him, and once you get a routine down it’s quite easy and quick.
Duncan is an absolutely lovely boy who is so full of life and love to give. He is like any other kitten and loves to play and wrestle with the other cats, then snuggle up for a nap. He is GREAT with cats, large dogs, and young children. Duncan is such a confident boy and is the official welcomer of his foster home (where he’s met and interacted with well over 100 cats of all ages and backgrounds).
Duncan is said to be a purebred Highland Lynx cat, though coming from an unethical breeder there are no guarantees. Duncan has many of the breed’s characteristics with curled ears, no tail, and polydactyl paws. He has striking markings and is very petite and he is only about 6 pounds full grown. It is important for Duncan to receive the proper care and maintain a lean and healthy weight as to know put extra strain on his tiny body.
Duncan is just like any other cat other than wearing a diaper. He is lovable, snuggly, and sooo deserving of a family of his own. He’s even being harness trained and occasionally goes on walks in a cat backpack. If you are interested in Duncan, please consult your vet on information regarding cats with Manx Syndrome and the health conditions associated with the Highland Lynx breed.
